Corporate Profile
Commercial operations began with Line 1 in March 1979, followed by the inauguration of Line 2 in 1981. In 1998, the Rio de Janeiro metro became the first metro system in Brazil to be operated under a concession model. In 2016, Line 4 was inaugurated, forming what is currently the largest metro system under private management in the country and the second largest in terms of network length and number of passengers.
Since the beginning of operations, significant investments have been made to improve the metro system, modernize the Control Center, and open new stations. Today, it crosses the city of Rio de Janeiro, connecting the North Zone to Barra da Tijuca, with 41 stations and 3 lines.
On November 8, 2021, MetrôRio came under the control of HMOBI S.A., which currently manages, maintains, and operates Lines 1, 2, and 4 of the Rio de Janeiro metro system.
