Corporate Profile
The start of commercial operations with Line 1 in March 1979 and the inauguration of Line 2 in 1981, the Rio de Janeiro’s metro was the first metro system to be granted concessions in Brazil, in 1998. In 2016, Line 4 was inaugurated, forming what is currently the largest metro system under private management in the country and the second largest in terms of network length and number of passengers.
Since the beginning of operations, intense investments have been made to improve the metro system, modernize the Control Center and open new stations. It currently crosses the city of Rio de Janeiro, connecting the North Zone to Barra da Tijuca, with 41 stations and 3 lines.
On November 8, 2021, MetrôRio came under the control of the company HMOBI S.A., which currently manages, maintains and operates Lines 1, 2 and 4 of the Rio de Janeiro’s metro system.
